About the Game

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is an action-adventure video game developed by FromSoftware and published by Activision. The game was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 22, 2019. The game follows a Sengoku period shinobi known as "Wolf" as he attempts to take revenge on a samurai who attacked him and kidnapped his lord. The game received universal acclaim from critics.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is an action-adventure game played from a third-person view.Compared to FromSoftware's Souls series, the game features fewer role-playing elements, lacking character creation and the ability to level up a variety of stats, as well as having no multiplayer elements. It does, however, include gear upgrading, a skill tree, and limited ability customization. Rather than attacking to whittle an enemy's health points, combat in Sekiro revolves around using a katana to attack their posture and balance instead, which eventually leads to an opening that allows for a single killing blow. The game also features stealth elements, allowing players to immediately eliminate enemies if they can get in range undetected. In addition, the player character has the ability to use various tools to assist with combat and exploration, such as a grappling hook.If the player character dies, they have the option of being revived on the spot under certain conditions instead of respawning at earlier checkpoints.

The game takes place in a re-imagined late 16th century Sengoku period Japan. The player takes control of a shinobi who was left for dead after his lord was kidnapped and his arm severed by a leading samurai of the Ashina clan. The shinobi awakens to find that his missing arm has been replaced with a prosthetic by a mysterious sculptor, who dubs him Sekiro, or "the one-armed wolf".
At the end of the Sengoku era, warlord Isshin Ashina stages a bloody coup and seizes the land of Ashina. During this time, a nameless orphan is adopted by the wandering shinobi Owl, who names the orphan "Wolf".Twenty years later, the Ashina are on the brink of collapse due to a combination of the now elderly Isshin having fallen ill and the clan's enemies steadily closing in from all sides. Desperate to find a way to prevent the fall of his clan, Isshin's grandson Genichiro captures the Divine Heir Kuro, in hopes of using his "Dragon Heritage" to create an immortal army. Wolf, now a full fledged shinobi and Kuro's personal bodyguard, attempts to stop Genichiro but is defeated and his left arm is cut off. Wolf survives his wounds due to Kuro having given him the Dragon Heritage three years prior, and he awakes in an abandoned temple. There, he meets the Sculptor, a former shinobi who now carves Buddha statues. The Sculptor gives Wolf the Shinobi Prosthetic, a sophisticated artificial arm that can wield a variety of gadgets and weaponry, and dubs him Sekiro, "the one-armed wolf".With the Shinobi Prosthetic, Sekiro assaults Ashina Castle and confronts Genichiro again, defeating him. Despite having an opportunity to flee Ashina forever, Kuro instead decides to stay and perform the "Immortal Severance" ritual, which would remove his Dragon Heritage and prevent anybody else from fighting over him to obtain immortality. Sekiro reluctantly agrees to help Kuro and sets out to the areas surrounding the castle to collect all of the necessary components of the ritual. When Sekiro returns, he encounters Owl, who was previously thought to have been killed three years ago. Owl reveals that he also seeks the Dragon Heritage from Kuro, and orders Sekiro to renounce his loyalty to Kuro.

◾ If Sekiro chooses to renounce his loyalty, the elderly Isshin confronts him in battle but is defeated. With Isshin eliminated, Owl boasts that there is nothing to stop him from seizing control of Japan when he is suddenly stabbed in the back by Sekiro. Kuro witnesses this and realizes that Sekiro has become corrupted by his bloodlust and has become a being known as Shura. Afterwards, Sekiro massacres nearly the entire population of Ashina, and years later, stories persist of a demon lurking the land.
◾ If Sekiro chooses to remain loyal to Kuro, he is forced to battle and kill Owl. Sekiro then makes his way to the Divine Realm, where he battles the Divine Dragon residing there and obtains a Dragon Tear from it, which is the final component needed to perform the Immortal Severance. When Sekiro returns to Ashina, he finds that Isshin has finally succumbed to his illness and Ashina's enemies have begun to assault the castle. Sekiro reunites with Kuro outside the castle, but they are ambushed by Genichiro. Sekiro is able to defeat him again, and in his desperation, Genichiro sacrifices himself to resurrect Isshin in his physical prime, who Sekiro is forced to battle and kill. From here, three endings are possible based on Sekiro's previous actions.

⚫ If Sekiro prevails without learning the Immortal Severance details throughout the course of the game, Kuro ingests the Dragon Tear and orders Sekiro to kill him to finally achieve Immortal Severance. Sekiro reluctantly follows Kuro's orders and kills him. Afterwards, Sekiro becomes a sculptor and starts carving Buddhas to atone for his actions while keeping the Shinobi Prosthetic safe for the next shinobi seeking power.
⚫ If Sekiro prevails after learning the Immortal Severance details throughout the course of the game, he gives Kuro the Dragon Tear but sacrifices himself instead of killing Kuro, ensuring that Kuro can live on without immortality. Some time later, Kuro visits Sekiro's grave before leaving on his own journey.
⚫ If Sekiro is able to obtain the Frozen Dragon Tear from the Divine Child, Kuro ingests the Frozen Dragon Tear and is absorbed into the Divine Child's heart. With Kuro's spirit inside her, the Divine Child decides to journey west to the Divine Dragon's birthplace to return the Dragon Heritage to its rightful place in the Divine Realm and out of reach of mortals who seek to claim it. Sekiro decides to accompany the Divine Child and Kuro on their journey.
